Research Laboratory of Degradation and Preservation of Synthetic and Natural Polymers (UCT) is focused on the identification of VOCs released from materials and their impact on other objects (cross-infection), the level of protection and the degree of compatibility of modern polymeric protective surface treatments of historic objects and the influence of conservation interventions on the cultural historical object is investigated. The laboratory offers the following research services:
- identification of VOCs and cross-infection
- identification of synthetic polymers and paper fibres
- determination of average degree of polymerization for synthetic polymers and paper
- description of synthetic and natural polymer degradation
- evaluation of quality of protective coatings according to ISO standards
- amino acid analysis
- evaluation of methods and materials for conservation
- suggestion of conservation procedures and storage conditions.
