The Laboratory of Chemical Technology of Inorganic Materials Conservation (UCT) focuses on research and survey in three main fields of Heritage Science: inorganic binders, stone and pigments. The Laboratory offers the following services:
- analysis of mortars, renders, plasters and stone for survey reports
- analysis of pigment layers, including microstratigraphy of murals
- evaluation of mortars and stone properties during degradation (including accelerated artificial ageing using climatic chambers) and determination of degradation mechanisms
- development and evaluation of methods and materials designed for conservation of cultural heritage objects.
