Electrical Laboratory (FCE CTU) Moisture and salts are one of the major factors causing deterioration of historic structural materials, such as plasters, masonry, stone, or wood. The presence of these agents can be correlated with the variation of the materials’ electrical properties. The Electrical Laboratory offers expertise and equipment for precise identification and analysis of AC/DC characteristics, which can be used for characterizing the current state of materials and structural elements and high-accuracy continuous long-term non-destructive laboratory/in-situ monitoring of water and salt content. The key available instruments include: time-domain reflectometry equipment for precise determination of complex relative permittivity of materials calibrated for the measurement of hygric properties, capacitance moisture meters, LCR bridge for precise measurements of AC characteristics, surface/volume resistance meter, function generators, oscilloscopes and others.
