Laboratory of Metal Corrosion and Conservation Research

Laboratory of Metal Corrosion and Conservation Research (UCT) is focused on evaluation of metal corrosion protection countermeasures by means of electrochemical or corrosion monitoring techniques. The lab is equipped with various corrosion testing techniques that are able to reveal corrosion mechanisms and kinetics and to evaluate corrosion protection efficiency of all applicable coatings, corrosion inhibitors, passivating agents, preventive measures, etc. The laboratory performs traditional analytical techniques like SEM-EDS, GDS-OES, AAS, and microstructural analysis by means of metallography. The following research services are available:

  • determination of corrosion protection efficiency of coatings and surface treatments on metals
  • determination of corrosion rate of metals in particular environments
  • determination of corrosion protection efficiency of corrosion inhibitors
  • evaluation of water adsorption and permeability of organic coatings on metals by means of electrochemical techniques
  • on-site corrosion aggressivity evaluation by means of standardized mass gain/loss, electrochemical reduction or electrical resistance techniques.
