Laboratory of Chemical Technology of Inorganic Materials Conservation

The Laboratory of Chemical Technology of Inorganic Materials Conservation (UCT) focuses on research and survey in three main fields of Heritage Science: inorganic binders, stone and pigments. The Laboratory offers the following services:

  • analysis of mortars, renders, plasters and stone for survey reports
  • analysis of pigment layers, including microstratigraphy of murals
  • evaluation of mortars and stone properties during degradation (including accelerated artificial ageing using climatic chambers) and determination of degradation mechanisms
  • development and evaluation of methods and materials designed for conservation of cultural heritage objects.
